About The Brand & Philosophy

In 2009, Novita Yunus stepped into the world of fashion and left her job in banking. Novita posted pictures of her very first “designer batik bags” on her Facebook page, which resulted in orders flowing in from her friends and acquaintances. Responding to this unexpected demand, she started her company Batik Chic in 2009.

Novita established Batik Chic out of love for traditional artisan crafted textiles and necessity to preserve the cultural heritage of Indonesia, fittingly the company motto is “Keep Heritage Alive”. With the goal of raising awareness and foster the popularity of Batik and other traditional Indonesian fabrics, Batik Chic is committed to create fashionable Batik items for all ages, while at the same time promoting vintage batik fabrics and designs that are quickly vanishing.

Novita strongly believes that the success of Batik Chic and NY by Novita Yunus is due to two key factors: exceptional Indonesian craftsmanship, and the rich culture of Indonesia.

Novita Yunus as a member of Indonesia Fashion Forward #IFF under the auspices of Jakarta Fashion Week, and also a member of Indonesia Fashion Chamber #IFC actively participate in sustainable fashion movement by always exploring variety of fabrics and new techniques that utilize fashion wastes prioritizing in environmental-friendly innovation.
