NY by Novita Yunus showcase collection FALL/WINTER 2018 with the title “AGAINST THE TIDE” on the Asian Fashion Meets Tokyo session, Amazon Fashion Week Tokyo 2018.  The collection is inspired by the idea of thinking outside of the box and not just go with the flow of the current fashion trend; Combines two different techniques on its collection, Batik from Indonesia and Shibori from Japan.

While the normal process would be to Batik first then dye in the Shibori technique, this time it is the other way around. The plain fabric will be put in Shibori first, then it will turn out as the background color. After the fabric has rest and complete with Shibori, Batik technique of wax-resist dyeing will be put on top it. These Batik and Shibori fabric will be made on linen, silk, cotton and rayon. The overall collection will also be showcasing some Garut hand woven silk to give some texture and depth.

“Being outside the box and moving forward differently than others” in this collection doesn’t only mean making different outcome in the result but also by showing that you can always combine or mix different cultures into one. NY by Novita Yunus wants to show how it can work by acculturating both Indonesia and Japan. Two countries that have strong traditional backgrounds in art and craftsmanship.
